Spring season information

The season will run from Sat. MARCH 24 - Sun. MAY 27.
ALL TEAMS will be scheduled for EIGHT games. NO games will be scheduled on Easter Weekend (4/7-8) OR on Memorial Day weekend (5/26-27). However teams 'may' schedule a game on one of those weekends, IF they confirm a game with another team in their bracket a minimum of 1 WEEK in advance, AND contact their respective Match Secretary. NO GAMES WILL BE SCHEDULED ON EASTER, Sun. April 8.

For Under 10 and older teams your games will be scheduled by Jack London.  The Under 8 and Under 6 teams are scheduled within Montclair Soccer. Most schedules are posted the week before play begins.  We know that you would like the schedules sooner, but the reason for the late posting is that often we are uncertain of field availability until right before the season starts.

Spring teams are formed by the Age Group Coordinators, who work with returning fall coaches.  Fall season players do NOT have to re-register to play in the spring.  Spring teams may combine players from more than one Fall team, depending on the number of returning coaches and players.  Spring rosters are often much larger than Fall;  rosters of 20 plus are not unusual for the older (U14+) age groups.  This is because conflicts with other sports during the spring can make it difficult for everyone to make the scheduled games.

If your Fall coach is not returning in the spring, parents should contact their Age Group Coordinator to see if placement is available on another team.  Coordinators can be found in our directory on the opening page of this site.

Differences between spring and fall soccer

Spring soccer is informal.  No standings.  But there is flighting.  Player pass cards for Under 10 and older are still enforced.  Players may play on more than one team in the spring.

Fall fees include the cost of playing in the spring.  If a child played fall 2009 and wishes to play spring 2010, they do not need to register again.  If you know a child that would like to register as a new player, have them visit our website registration section.  Spring registration will be open based on availability. Not all age groups will have space for new players.  Be sure to register in April for fall of 2010 if your player cannot be accommodated in the spring.

Other spring-specific information

We open our spring registration in March, after we hear from our coaches and know the number of teams.  Registration instructions will be posted on the Registration page.

All Players must have a medical release form 1601 (with wet signature) in order to play.  A coach may make copies of this form and have the parents sign each copy.  The player can carry this with them from team to team.

Under 10 and older players need to carry player passes.  If your team is not playng this spring then it is the coach's reponsibility to give the player their pass to take with them to their spring team.  We will not be reprinting new passes for returning players in the spring.  Please contact your fall coach for your pass.

We have a limited amount of space for practices.  Not all teams practice in the spring.

A child may play up an age group in the spring - for example, from Under 8 to Under 10 or from Under 10 to Under 12.  But they may never play down.

A player from a different class may play on a spring team.  However, you should let the opposing coach know if you have a Class 3 (or Class 1) player on your Class 4 (Recreational) spring team.

Some teams/players will need equipment/uniforms;  they should work with their Age Group Coordinator and the Equipment Coordinators  to obtain the needed items.  AGCs and Equipment Coordinators can be located in the Directory.

All teams must have referees. Jack London has put a spring referee requirement in place. Contine to check www.jlysl.org for referee courses that are held in the spring and the summer.  Don't wait until Fall to start getting referee training for your team.  Fall is too late for the courses because all of the fields are in use playing soccer!

Most of all....spring is about having fun!
