The grass fields in Shepherd Canyon Park have been used by Montclair Soccer for our Under-8 and Under-6 programs for practices and games for a long time. Our Equipment Shed is located near the firehouse.

The pitch at Shepherd Canyon is divided into two playing fields: north and south. The field closest to the restrooms is the north field. The field closest to the fire station is the south field.

Under-8 games are held on Saturdays and Sunday mornings. Under-8 games use the metal goals and the lined fields define the area for game play. Under-6 games are held on Sunday afternoons. For Under-6, Micro Soccer, coaches set up areas for game play using cones and pop-up goals. Micro Soccer games and practices are held on the same fields in a 1 hour time-frame: 30 minutes for practice followed by two 10 minute mini-games.
The City of Oakland expanded Shepherd Canyon in Fall 2008. A portion of the construction funding for this project was provided by the Montclair Soccer Club.

No dogs allowed (on the trails, in the car in the parking lot, on the fields).

U8 games - Saturday, 8am to 6pm; Sunday, 8am to noon

U6 games - Sundays, noon to 6pm - U6 games

Field Stewards
You are responsible for making sure your team follows the following rules:

1. Remove all your team's trash. Do not put it in trash cans at the park. There’s no way the City can keep up with our 500+ U6-U8-U10 families who use Shepherd Canyon. All teams must pack up their own trash and take it home.

2. No Dogs - We love Fido, but no dogs are allowed at soccer practices or games. No dogs are allowed on the surrounding trails or the fields, or to stay in the car in the parking lot. If you or someone on your team brings a dog, your entire team will be dropped immediately from the schedule. (Sounds harsh, but we'd rather lose a team than lose the entire field for our 500+ families who play here each week.)

Parking

All Montclair Soccer families should follow these parking instructions.

Do NOT park in the gulley or on Shepherd Canyon Road below the parking lot.

Shepherd Canyon Parking lot
Entrance is on Shepherd Canyon Road. The parking lot is near the play structure and bathroom at the park. This is a newly expanded parking lot that Montclair Soccer helped build, with room for 44 cars.
Under no circumstances should Montclair Soccer families park on Shepherd Canyon Road, or park in the gulley or on the road below the Shepherd Canyon parking lot.

Escher Road
This is the most peaceful way for you to enter the park for your child’s game. Escher Road is on the right about a half mile past Shepherd Canyon park. Go up Escher Road (it winds around a bit) for a little less than a mile. The road is wide where Escher ends at Bagshotte drive, with room for about 15 cars to park on the side of the road on Escher. (Think: parking on the road in Golden Gate park.) The yellow gate marks the trail leading down to Shepherd Canyon park. See below for map & directions to Escher Drive. 

City Yard parking lot
You may park at the City Yard lot across the street from the firehouse on weekends and after 5pm on weekdays. While the signs say parking is not authorized, it has not been an issue with the City in the past. Never block the gates to the City yard. Walk your child across Shepherd Canyon using the clearly marked cross walk.

Shepherd Canyon Parking Strip
We recommend our families park here only as a last resort because of the danger of young children getting in/out with fast moving cars on Shepherd Canyon Road.
