Registration FAQs

Do you need any volunteers at Registration?
Yes, we always need volunteers at registration! Email the Registrar PamOfOak@aol.com  if you would like to help.

Is financial aid available?
If severe financial circumstances will prevent your son or daughter from playing, contact the Montclair Soccer Club Treasurer, Steve Depetris (treasurer@montclairsoccer.org) before you begin the registration process. A very limited amount of financial aid is available.

How do I get a refund?
If a player withdraws prior to June 1st, then the fees are fully refunded. If a player withdraws between June 2nd and July 31st, we will refund all but $70.00 of your fees. This is because the Club will have already been charged a non-refundable fee by the League and CYSA. Refunds for withdrawals for medical reasons during the season may be prorated, but are handled on a case-by-case basis.

There are no refunds after August 1. The exception to this would be if we cannot place your child on an appropriate team for his or her age, you will receive a full refund of any fees including late fees.

How do I request a refund of the volunteer deposit?
To request a refund of your volunteer deposit, please see Volunteers on the front page of our site.
Email the Registrar PamOfOak@aol.com  if you would like instructions on how to request a refund.

Can my son/daughter play ↓down↓ an age group?
You may petition to play down an age group. You must petition the President <president@montclairsoccer.org> or Vice President <vicepresident@montclairsoccer.org> of our club who will bring your request to the monthly board meeting of Jack London Youth Soccer Sports League. JLYSSL meets the first Monday of every month, please keep this in mind when timing your requests.

The petition must include a letter from a pediatric or a developmental physician stating that your child is unable to physically and/or mentally participate in their correct age group.

Only petitions with medical reasons will be presented to the JLYSSL board. You may not petition to play down based upon grade in school, proximity to date of age group cutoff, or for reasons of playing with friends or a particular coach.

Can my son/daughter play up an age group?
You may request to have your child play up one age group. However, you must first register in your correct age group.  Once you have registered please send an email to the Age Group Coordinator of your correct age group (the one you registered in) and the Age Group Coordinator of the group you wish to play with. Please let them know your reasons for your requests. It also helps to place a cover letter on your application that you will drop off during our paperwork turn in days. If you have a coach that wants your child to play up on their team, please have the coach do the same. Contact information for the Age Group Coordinators can be found in the Directory.

We will consider play up requests providing that the coach agrees and that there is room in the age group. Should the age group be full, we will not bump an age appropriate player from that group by forcing them to play up themselves. It is extremely important that you register on time in order to be considered for a play up request.  Especially in our younger age groups, we fill up very quickly.

Our standard refund policy still applies. If we are unable to grant your play up request, please note that you will not be granted a partial or full refund (depending upon the timing of the request) if we are able to place your child on another team in either age group.

Age groups are determined by The California Youth Soccer Association and not by Montclair Soccer or The Jack London Youth soccer League.

Play up requests are not accepted for U6 Micro Soccer.

How are teams formed?
Team are formed under the oversight of the Age Group Coordinators according to the guidelines set forth in the Class 4 Team Formation Policy page.

Montclair Soccer Club Financial Aid Program

MSC is committed to working with families to be sure every child can enjoy a soccer experience with our club. With this commitment we have developed various levels of programs with the intention that families can find one that best fits their financial abilities and child’s ambitions. We strive to have each of our programs meet or exceed the comparable standards for similar programs found in the Bay Area.

To help families budget for their specific soccer program with MSC we offer the flexibility of using an installment payment plan. By going through the regular registration process you can set up this plan to pay in up to 8 equal installments. This can minimize the financial impact of having to pay for a full program up-front.

After assessing these options within our Club, a family may still need some financial help to have their child participate. For these families we do want to be sure that your child can find an opportunity to gain a soccer experience. MSC will gladly review your specific situation to determine the level of financial support we can offer each year. The level of support varies each year depending the Club’s overall financial abilities and the number of families requesting support. Our first priority is to be sure that as many kids as possible will be able to participate in one of our programs.

To help us assess the amount of financial support we can offer your family we ask that you please fill out the Montclair Soccer Club Financial Aid Application and email it back to our Club Financial Aid Officer at financialaid@montclairsoccer.org. We try to ask the very minimum information that will help us most fairly distribute our current funds. This information is kept with the highest level of confidentiality possible with a very limited number of Club Officials reviewing each application. Generally we only need our Financial Aid Officer reviewing each application. We anticipate that the 2012 assistance will be at the following levels:
>> Recreation Program: $100
>> Clippers Programs: $250

Higher Awards may be determined after reviewing overall budget and family needs.
